WHO WE ARE BOARD STAFF HISTORY

WHO WE ARE

The Professional Golfers’ Association of British Columbia serves and represents more than 650 golf professionals who work at and operate golf courses, driving ranges and other golf facilities throughout the Province.

Our goal is to make the game of golf more enjoyable for all who take part in it.

PGA of British Columbia member golf professionals are experts in the business of golf, are the most qualified instructors of the game, and are essential to any successful golf operation.

Every Class 'A' PGA of BC professional must complete a comprehensive apprenticeship program, which includes obtaining a three-year business/golf diploma or a four-year university business degree. The professional must also complete a four-level teaching program, which provides the foundation to become expert instructors. Rules of golf, club fitting and club repair workshops are also taken, along with various seminars on industry topics. Members must also constantly upgrade their skills to maintain their Class 'A' membership status.

PGA of British Columbia members participate in many charity Pro-Ams and club Pro-Ams, with many charities benefiting from their involvement. Junior golf development is a high priority among the membership. Current annual PGA of BC Junior events include McDonald’s Small Fry Clinics, Clubs For Kids, Junior-Junior golf, and many more.

Whether you need a golf lesson, advice on the latest golf equipment or just want to talk about your game, golf professionals are there for you. BC’s golf professionals are friends to golfers, experts on the business of golf, and are devoted to promoting the game.

The PGA of British Columbia operates ten provincial golf championships at venues around the province involving professionals and professionals teamed with amateur golfers. Events include:

  • PGA of BC Championship
  • PGA of BC Assistants' Championship
  • PGA of BC Women's Championship
  • PGA of BC Seniors' Championship
  • PGA of BC Club Professional Championship
  • PGA of BC Pro-Executive Championship
  • PGA of BC Pro-Women Championship
  • PGA of BC Pro-Junior Championship
  • PGA of BC Pro-Assistant Championship
  • PGA of BC Tournament of Champions

The PGA of BC also owns and operates the PGA of BC Trade Show, the largest annual golf industry gathering in our province. The association owns and operates several junior golf initiatives, including the Clubs For Kids program, which has donated more than 10,000 complimentary golf clubs to young boys and girls in the province. It also supports events conducted by the Maple Leaf Junior Tour and the Canadian Junior Golf Association.
